Weekly Newsletter Grade 5

Dates: Feb 12 - Feb. 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

Curriculum Information for this Week:

Literacy: G5 students are starting their fantasy stories. Each day we have a mini-lesson to help focus our writing for the day. The narrative writing rubric is a handy tool to have by our sides during this process.

Math: The students continue working on Unit 5: Multiplying & Dividing Fractions’. They are using a variety of manipulatives and also drawing models to show their thinking while multiplying fractions.

Unit of Study: Students have completed their “Chicken Leg Dissection!” lesson in the science labs. This week we will introduce the science project, which focuses on choosing body systems and their interdependence.  Each student will develop a research question to research in order to develop an interactive project to share with other grade 5 students, buddies and parents at Student Led Conferences.

For more information and ways to support your child please visit the Parent Learning Connection page.

Important Reminders/Information: (also see GLC Updates)
Wednesday is a Red Hat Free Dress Day
No school this Thursday and Friday for the students. It’s the Chinese New Year long weekend.
Student Led Conferences will be March 7 & 8.  Please mark your calendars.
