Dates: November 12-16, 2018

Curriculum Information for the Week:
Literacy: Students will be continuing their Nonfiction reading and writing unit.  This unit will be integrated with our science unit, so students will be using texts about sustainable energy to improve their nonfiction reading. This week we will focus on text structures and finding the main idea.

Math: Students will be tuning in to coordinate planes this week. We will introduce important vocabulary, focusing on one quadrant of the coordinate plane. They will be plotting ordered pairs, as well as reading and interpreting data on coordinate planes. Students will continue to review our learning from Unit 1 and Unit 2 in the daily warm ups.

Unit of Study:  We will continue to work with the Sustainable Energy unit. Classes will continue to get into the labs working with circuits. The classes are all reading a non-fiction book on Energy.

Important Reminders/Information: (also see GLC Updates)
There will be a hearing check conducted by our ES Nurse Ms Bethanie this week.

Highlight - Last Week:

  • We had Mr Baker visiting to share his expertise in fossil fuels. We took part in some experiments that demonstrated locating and extracting oils found in seabed. We thank Mr Baker for his time and effort in sharing his knowledge in the field. Ask your 5th grader what they learned on Friday.
  • Our first inaugural International Festival was on Saturday. Despite the torrential rain at the beginning of the festival, there were lots of vendors and food, activities and performances that showcased #ISKLUnited. There was awesome fireworks as the night’s finale. Thank you PTA for amazing organization!
