Weekly Newsletter Grade 5

Dates: April 2-6

Dear Parents,

Curriculum Information for this Week:

Literacy: Students continue to learn about Social Issues and Human Rights through a variety of texts, including on line articles, picture books and read aloud. We will focus on Informational text throughout this unit. As we move into writing we will revisit informational and opinion writing in this unit.

Math: The students will continue the unit titled Order of Operations. We have been practicing this skill using daily warm ups, so they are familiar with these skills. Students will evaluate how to use numerical expressions with parentheses, brackets and braces. They will explain how to use these symbols in order to identify, write and describe simple numerical expressions. The end of unit assessment will be the end of this week.

Unit of Study: We will continue our Social Change unit by tuning in to the ‘Night of the Notables’ 2018 presentation in preparation for beginning to write our individual class scripts. Our presentation to parents will be on the evening of Tuesday, 8 May, so teachers and students are starting the process of preparing for this important grade level highlight.
